Egis Joins Maryland’s Purple Line LRT Project as Independent Engineer

Egis has been appointed as the Independent Engineer for Maryland’s Purple Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, one of the largest rail public-private partnership (P3) projects in the U.S. In this role, Egis will review and oversee technical submissions and construction on behalf of both the Concessionaire, Purple Line Transit Partners, and the owner, the Maryland Department of Transportation/Maryland Transit Administration.

The 16-mile Purple Line will provide a vital connection between Prince George’s and Montgomery counties near Washington, D.C., linking key transit systems, including:

• Metrorail: Red Line (Bethesda, Silver Spring), Green Line (College Park), and Orange Line (New Carrollton)
• MARC commuter rail: (Silver Spring, College Park, New Carrollton)
• Amtrak: (New Carrollton)
• Local and regional bus networks

Egis will oversee technical reviews, drawing assessments, and on-site inspections to facilitate the Purple Line’s commissioning. The project will be supported by a dedicated team of LRT and P3 experts from the U.S., Canada, and Europe, demonstrating Egis’ commitment to incorporating global expertise into this landmark initiative.

Egis has a proven track record in delivering complex rail projects across the U.S., including conducting asset condition assessments for Amtrak and implementing fully automatic train control systems on New York City metro lines. The company is also a key player in delivering California’s High-Speed Rail program.
